Perverelist - Jarvik Mindstate

(2009 / Punch Drunk)
dubstep / dub / minimal

Jarvik Mindstate—named after Robert Jarvik, the inventor of the artificial heart, a self-contained, integrated pneumatic unit—conceptually fuses man with machine, theorising Tom Ford's interplay with synthesis structurally, as he forges forward, humanising the computer's array of voices and timbres. Those familiar with Ford, AKA Peverelist, and his work will no doubt have already noted his pristine command of space, his hankering for the bass heavy feel of dub music and his habit of drawing out melodic evolutions for eons; and it is undoubtedly these factors that make this collection of songs so potent. Reso - Temjin EP

(2009 / Civil Music)
dubstep / electronic / bass

Reso’s third release for Civil Music, Temjin EP, is 6 tracks across 2 slabs of musical genius that simultaneously moves a whole spectrum of electronic genres forward while further cementing his place as the overlord of hi-tech dubstep. On Temjin wobble, hypercrunk, breaks, wonky, hip-hop and D n B all receive the treatment. Reso’s deep musicality, incredible skill, intricate programming and wildly diverse references place him at the peak of a new breed of electronic producers. (civilmusic.com)

Lone - Ecstasy & Friends

(2009 / Werk Discs)
ambient / electronic / instrumental

After making waves with his 'Lemurian' long player and more recent tracks for Gilles Peterson's Brownswood Bubblers comp, Lone aka Matt Cutler delivers an album of lush woozy electro-hop prog with a soul-melted centre for Werk Discs. Lone blends Boards Of Canada styled 'lectronic nostalgia and Flying Lotus style funk-impressions, causing folks like Warp's Bibio to swoon "...he has a personality in his music that's vivid", with many favourable comparisons to everyone from Dilla to Madlib in respected corners of the music press. Mike Slott - Lucky 9Teen

(2009 / Lucky Me)
instrumental hip-hop / wonky / future beat / experimental

The talents of future hiphop prodigy Mike Slott come to fruition with his debut mini-album 'Lucky 9teen' landing on the Lucky Me co-operative imprint. You've no doubt spotted his name and heard his beats sprawled all over the electronic scene over the last couple of years, from inclusions on Mary Anne-Hobbs 'Wild Angels' comp to a part on the Beat Dimension series and a slew of highly collectable 7"s, setting him apart as a beat auteur operating at the highest echelons of the scene alongside Flylo and Dabrye. He flips 80's boogie, jazz arrangements and electronica into new shapes on 'Amanallah', dices with exotic sci-fi beat organisms on 'Six AM' and craftily nudges classic hiphop/electronica templates with 'Gardening'. The neck snappin' beat of '40 Winx' twinkles and under a constellation of gorgeous synthline sequences and 'Snow Birds' trips into sci-fi jazz scapes, like Mad Mike jamming with Jamie Vex'd in anti-gravity, continued into deep space with the digital only 'Expansion' version. Like everything else he's put his name to, this record is stunning. (boomkat.com)
